Edinburgh Instruments unveils low-cost gas monitors

Edinburgh Instruments is launching an extended range of low-cost wall-mounted infrared gas monitors that give accurate continuous sampling, measurement and display of target gas concentrations. Designated the Guardian range, it comprises three series.

Soft starters can cut energy consuption by 18%

Reducing energy costs and corporate carbon emissions in the food industry can be accomplished easily and cost-effectively by using Fairford's SPOSS single-phase power-optimising soft starter. Simply by fitting SPOSS soft starters (in about 15 minutes) to the electric motors used on refrigerators, freezers, chillers, and compressors, energy demand can reduce immediately by 10-18 per cent per unit: these figures are backed-up in an independent report by EA Technology Ltd.

Gefran Quix GV drive delivers 100% torque at standstill

Gefran UK Ltd is launching a new range of high-performance sensorless AC variable speed drives in two package sizes covering 0.37-2.2kW that deliver full torque at standstill. After performing a static auto-tune routine with simple motor nameplate data for rated motor voltage, current and frequency, the Quix GV employs its patented 3GV open-loop motor control technology to deliver 100 per cent torque at 0.0 Hz. Furthermore, the vector control algorithm optimises dynamic response, energy saving and maximum torque delivery in real time, continually tracking motor inductance, resistance, current and power factor levels under dynamic application conditions.

Sack gripper keeps a tighter hold than vacuum

TIA's new sack gripper is designed for handling sacks containing materials such as aggregates, grain, sand, potatoes and granules. These types of material tend to be difficult to handle with traditional vacuum grippers, as they are very unstable in the sack and exhibit a fluid-like behaviour that can cause the sacks or bags to sag, so breaking the vacuum hold.
