Energy management and FPGA on show at SPS/IPC/Drives Fair

Major advances in open industrial communications will greet visitors to the CLPA (CC-Link Partners Association) booth, Hall 6 Number 122, at the SPS/IPC/Drives Fair. These will include a new Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and the launch of CC-Link Energy.

Cucumber, side salads and innovative functionality...

I was never one of those people who understood the raison d'être of the side salad, or who was able to fathom any useful role for cucumber. Now, don't get me wrong, I like a salad as much as the next man. Give me a chicken caesar or a tuna nicoise and I'm a happy boy. But in both those cases the salad is a properly integrated component of the dish rather than an afterthought, and that's always been the nub of the issue for me. If the salad is supposed to be part of the dish, then make it part of the dish. If it isn't, then it isn't. In neither case is a small bowl of lettuce, cucumber and grated carrot required on the side. It smacks of nothing but a thinly disguised ploy to get me to pay more for a meal.

Lean automation to increase in popularity, says IMS Research

IMS Research projects world sales revenue of operator terminals with embedded PLC hardware will rise from $99 million in 2011, to approximately $148million in 2016; a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 9 per cent over the period. The largest vertical sectors for these products in 2011 were estimated to be Food, Beverage and Tobacco Machinery; Machine Tools and Packaging Machinery. Collectively, these sectors accounted for approximately 35 per cent of sales revenue. The largest unit shipment growth is also forecast to come from the food and beverage machine builder sector, with annual shipments increasing by more than 5,000 between 2011 and 2016.

Mitsubishi Electric's data communications system wins award

The Food and Beverage Industry has voted the Mitsubishi Electric C-Controller integrated communications system as the most important technological development of the year. This is the second year in a row that Mitsubishi has triumphed at the Food Processing Awards Ceremony of the prestigious Appetite for Engineering food industry event.
