What every small business could learn from football...

As a Spurs supporter, I'm finding things increasingly tense as the summer goes on. (I use the term 'summer' in the loosest possible sense, referring merely to the time of year rather than to any noticeable pick up in the weather.) No new Tottenham signings yet, and mounting speculation over the future of Gareth Bale, with an offer of £85 million from Real Madrid reportedly on the table. Of course that's a lot of money to turn down, but no more than the club would make from a couple of Champions League runs should they manage to hold on to him. It would also be a statement of intent that would help to attract other top players to the club.

New website for Engineering Insight Award Scheme

Xylem Inc, a global manufacturer with brands such as Midland-ACS, Flojet, Rule, Jabsco, Alcon and PCI Membranes, has launched a new website for its Engineering Insight Award Scheme. The Engineering Insight initiative was set up by Xylem to promote closer links between industry and mechanical engineering students at leading universities and IMechE accredited institutions. It is part of Xylem's programme to engage with young people following engineering degree courses and to help address the current shortage of UK engineering graduates compared with predicted future requirements; currently the UK is producing approximately half the number of suitably qualified engineers it will need (source: Engineering UK, 2013*).

100,000 bulk solid radar sensors from VEGA installed worldwide

This February 2013, less than 9 years after introducing VEGAPULS 68, the first non-contact radar sensor for bulk solids, VEGA have delivered the 100,000th sensor. Günter Kech, Managing Director, comments: "This production milestone carries forward the success story of radar level sensors in process automation. Today, they are the all-round level transmitter for liquids and bulk solids.
