Bega Group has grown to be one of Australia's largest dairy companies in the last two decades. Rapid growth to 19 manufacturing sites led Bega Group to assess its facilities systematically. To ensure its operating personnel had effective protection from hazards, Bega Group wanted to establish consistent and compliant safety standards - across all sites. Pilz laid the foundation with its comprehensive safety consulting.
At Bega Group's request, Pilz then provided thorough training for operating personnel on this subject, enabling Bega Group to establish a lasting understanding of comprehensive machine safety.
In order to assess all plant and machinery at the sites against the required safety level, Pilz conducted a structured safety analysis to document the technical condition, automation level and existing safety standards. At some sites Pilz was engaged to undertake risk assessments, engineering, design and validation of the safety equipment.
In the 'MachineSAFE Comprehensive' course, Bega Group personnel benefitted from specialised insights into the importance of machine safety. The course also covered national and international safety standards. This was followed by the CMSE course, which was aimed at qualified personnel, providing a more in-depth, TUV-certified expertise in the field of Machinery Safety.
"In the course of this project, the risk analysis and subsequent assessment by qualified Pilz experts created a new level of safety awareness for our staff," said Neil Roberts, Group Risk Engineer Bega Group. "The knowledge and experience of the Pilz team have brought the 'Spirit of Safety' to life at Bega Group.
