Worner Automatisierungstechnik has expanded its stopper portfolio with the launch of an IO-Link stopper for transfer systems, designed to simplify installation and provide valuable data for industrial automation applications.
The new IO-Link stopper combines actuator and sensor functions within a single component, helping manufacturers reduce wiring complexity while gaining visibility into equipment performance and operating conditions.
Intelligent automation for modern production lines
In automated production and assembly environments, stoppers are critical components that accurately position and release workpiece carriers throughout the manufacturing process. Traditionally, actuators and sensors have been installed and connected separately, resulting in additional cabling and commissioning requirements.
Worner's new IO-Link stopper (ELD-70-08-510) integrates both functions into one solution. By reducing the number of cables and connections needed, the device simplifies installation, commissioning and maintenance.
"With our IO-Link stopper, we transform a classic mechanical system component into an intelligent data provider," explains Dr. Tobias Weber, Managing Director of Worner Automatisierungstechnik. "For our customers, this means less installation effort, faster commissioning, and significantly greater transparency regarding the stopper's condition and usage."
Beyond basic switching signals, the IO-Link interface allows users to access a range of operational and diagnostic information. Key data points include operating voltage, component temperature, operating hours, cycle counts, and process and status information. This data can be transferred directly to higher-level control systems, or to analysis and maintenance systems. This provides plant operators with a clearer understanding of component health and utilisation.
Supporting condition-based maintenance
The enhanced data capabilities of the IO-Link stopper can play an important role in condition monitoring and predictive maintenance strategies. By continuously tracking variables such as temperature, voltage and switching behaviour, manufacturers can identify potential issues before they affect production.
Early detection of abnormal operating conditions allows maintenance teams to take proactive action, reducing unplanned downtime and improving overall system reliability.
As manufacturers continue to embrace smart factory principles, intelligent components that combine functionality with performance data are becoming increasingly important. Worner's IO-Link stopper provides a practical way to enhance transfer systems, reduce installation complexity and support more data-driven maintenance and production processes.
