Fastening exhibition includes Vampire jet dragster seminar

The Fastening & Assembly Solutions Exhibition will take place at the RAF Museum Cosford, near Wolverhampton, on 29 April 2009 and provides UK manufacturing professionals with an abundance of opportunities for immediate cost reductions and design improvements.

New fasteners, new processes and new exhibitors will help manufacturers get costs down and make things better, often achieving the rare combination of reduced cost and improved product performance/quality.

Furthermore, under the heading of Discovering Real Speed a unique and serious - but no doubt humorous - seminar is also being held at the show, presented by the owners and operators of the Vampire jet dragster that crashed at Elvington in someone else's hands in September 2006. Colin Fallows (who had helped to design and build the car and owned it at the time of the crash) holds the official (ie two-way) British Land Speed Record at an average of 300.3mph and will discuss the unique engineering aspects of jet car design and operation.

His colleague Mark Newby holds the unofficial (ie one-way) British Land Speed Record at 339mph and also drove the team's electric car e-motion, which was the UK's first and only electric car to exceed 200mph when it posted an FIA average of 189.9mph at 48 per cent power in May 2005. (The car is now on display at the National Motor Museum Beaulieu). Mark will discuss the demands made on the drivers of jet dragsters, and how he and Colin overcame the variety of driving challenges they faced during careers that saw more than 3000 accident-free runs made between them, the majority at more than 300mph.

Additionally, qualifying pre-registered visitors (ie manufacturing professionals in design, production and management) benefit from a quality Complimentary Luncheon served between 12pm and 2pm, free tea and coffee for the duration of the show, free parking and free exhibition entry, plus free entrance to the outstanding RAF Museum where the truly ingenious heritage of UK engineering can be seen through the lens of its aerospace achievements, ensuring a nostalgic overload for many visitors!
