Atlas Copco's VSD technology consumes 25 per cent less power

At Brucha's 80,000-square-meter plant in Michelhausen in Lower Austria, four Atlas Copco GA oil-injected screw compressors with variable speed drive technology are using 25 per cent less power to supply the company's four production halls with the required volume of compressed air to meet their production needs.

WEG and KSB supply motors and pumps to Water-link project

The Water-link project in Belgium, delivers nearly 190 million m3 of water to over 700,000 customers annually. As part of the project, a new drinking water pipeline has been laid to water company TMVW in Buggenhout, Belgium. Critical to the pipeline are six high-efficiency WEG W22 motors which have been integrated into pumps supplied by KSB.

Integrated welding cell from ABB cuts production time

An ABB robotic welding cell is enabling agricultural machinery manufacturer Shelbourne Reynolds to reduce production times for its range of articulated hedge-cutting tractor attachments. Handling the several hundred welds entailed in the production of the attachments, the cell has so far cut welding process times by 66 per cent compared with the company's previous manufacturing process.

Bread production is very competitive in terms of production costs. Highly automated processes are used to reduce overall operating costs and maintenance costs are kept to tight budgets. The failure of a conveyor chain in the last part of the production process can have very significant knock-on effects for overall productivity and efficiency. One group of bakeries has engaged Tsubaki to provide a more reliable conveyor chain to help reduce costs associated with lost production and maintenance.

Mitsubishi robot emulates intuitive human cake-icing movements

Solving a long-standing automation problem in cake decoration has also produced a groundbreaking development that could be taken up across a whole range of other industries. Quasar Automation wanted to create a system that can neatly apply icing or other embellishments to cakes regardless of irregularities and imperfections in the cakes' surface. To achieve this they have integrated a ceiling-mounted food-safe robot from Mitsubishi Electric with a vision system and data processing software from Scorpion Vision.
