eBook discusses next-generation connectivity for Industry 4.0

Mouser Electronics has published a new eBook in collaboration with Molex that explores the exciting changes taking place in industrial automation. The new eBook, Connector & Antenna Solutions for Industry 4.0, features contributions from Molex and Mouser experts that cover some of the most important topics in industrial automation, including digital twinning, deep learning, and neural networks. The eBook also spotlights the Molex Industrial Automation Solution (IAS) 4.0, as well as Molex products such as Ultra-Fit power connectors and Contrinex sensors.

Acquisition of Invertek Drives will lead to continued growth

Invertek Drives, one of the leading innovators and manufacturers of variable frequency drives, has been acquired by Tokyo-based Sumitomo Heavy Industries (SHI). The deal will lead to significant investment in the growth and development of Invertek in Mid Wales. Sumitomo Heavy Industries has acquired the entire share capital of Invertek in the deal.

Nord Drivesystems at BrauBeviale 2019

At BrauBeviale 2019, in Nuremberg from 12 to 14 November, Nord Drivesystems will be presenting a new synchronous motor that combines a significant improvement of energy efficiency with the nsd tupH surface treatment. It is optimally suitable for the challenging environmental conditions and the stringent hygiene requirements in beverage logistics and production. Nord also presents its standardised drive concept for lauter tuns (vessels for separating wort from mash solids in the brewing process), as well as the new Nordac PRO SK 500P control cabinet inverter.

Rockwell expands Machine Safety System Integrator programme

Industrial companies trying to keep up with today's complex requirements for machine-safety systems while staying as productive as possible now have more help available to them through the Machine Safety System Integrator programme. Rockwell Automation has added three new members to the programme, which connects companies with system integrators that have expertise in current safety standards and a track record of designing safety systems. The programme now has 45 members located around the world.

Timken to acquire Beka Lubrication

The Timken Company, a world leader in engineered bearings and power transmission products, has reached an agreement to acquire Beka Lubrication, a leading global supplier of automatic lubrication systems, for approximately $165 million. The company serves a diverse range of industrial sectors including wind, food and beverage, rail, on- and off-highway and other process industries.

Understanding the impact of the availability heuristic

A friend was telling me a joke: “This bloke walks into a pub,” he began, but to be honest I zoned out almost immediately. All I could think was, well – who is this bloke? Have I ever met him? What’s he like? I’m guessing, by the time he spends at the pub, that he’s got a bit of a drink problem. And I know he’s not a well man because he’s always at the doctor’s. Eventually I zoned back in to find my friend looking at me expectantly. I made an effort to laugh politely, but the way he stomped off made me wonder if perhaps the conversation had moved on a bit further than I thought, and I’d just laughed at something entirely inappropriate.
